The past year has seen several violent ambush attacks on police officers, patrol vehicles and stationhouses.

In September 2020, two Los Angeles deputies were shot and critically wounded after a gunman approached their patrol vehicle and started firing at the officers. In October 2020, two officers were ambushed in New Orleans by a man in a pedicab, one officer was shot in the face. And in February 2021, a gunman used a doorbell camera to ambush and kill two FBI agents.

Terry Nichols currently serves as the chief of police for the City of Seguin, Texas Police Department. Prior to becoming chief, he served as both the assistant director and director of curriculum development for the Advanced Law Enforcement Rapid Response Training Center (ALERRT) at Texas State University. Terry is one of three founding members who initiated and led the creation of the internationally recognized ALERRT Center at Texas State University.


Terry has more than 30 years of law enforcement experience. He is a co-author of "Active Shooter Events and Response" and "Active Shooter Events from 2000-2012." Terry frequently speaks at national and international conferences on the active shooter threat, officer safety and law enforcement organizational leadership.
