Field based vehicle perimeter monitoring systems for Police  &, Security personnel.

Keys to preventing an ambush in your squad car

  1. Paperwork should be done in a secured location where citizens cannot approach your car.

  2. When parking, always take a moment to create an escape plan.

  3. Park for a rapid exit and leave a cushion with cars around you on the road.

  4. Check your mirrors often and observe those around you.

  5. Scan parking lots and intersections as you enter them.

  6. Make eye contact with others when you can. Pay particular attention to those that avoid looking at you.

  7. When suspects exit their vehicle, if they leave their door open that could be an indication, that they plan on attacking and running back to their car.

  8. Never let someone approach you while you are sitting in your car.

Lessons from the NYPD vehicle ambush

Article here:

"It’s vitally important for officers to remember that while they may feel a level of comfort and security in their vehicle, it’s not a safe haven, and they have to remain alert to the danger of being ambushed while they are in the vehicle. The police car can become a “Purple Heart Box” that will trap you inside if you’re not careful, so it’s essential to divide your attention between whatever you are doing in the car (typing on a data terminal, writing a citation, talking on the radio, etc.) and watching the people who are approaching your vehicle."

It appears that the driver in this incident maintained this kind of awareness, and it provided him just enough advance warning of the attack to “get off the X.” The shooter still injured the officer with grazing wounds to the neck and chin, but those bullets would probably have struck more lethal areas if the officer hadn’t complicated the attack by driving away.

ABOUT OUR PRODUCTS

For modern Law enforcement personnel, the patrol car has become a high tech, field-based office.   In today’s chaotic world being seated in your vehicle while focused on activity in one direction or heads down completing paperwork, you are extremely vulnerable.  This can be especially true during low light situations when looking up from your backlit computer screen can leave you momentarily blind.   Situational awareness is critical to your safety.  You try to stay as alert as possible, frequently monitor your surroundings with mirror checks, and keep your head on a swivel, but let’s be honest, we’ve all had that Oh Shit! moment when some unknown person knocks on our window.   Today, a momentary lapse of attentiveness like this can be deadly.    Wouldn’t it be nice to have a lookout focused on your safety while you remain focused on your work?     You now have that lookout in ReconMobile ©, the first vehicle perimeter monitoring system specifically designed for Police and Security personnel.    When Armed ReconMobile © monitors a safety zone around your patrol vehicle using two independent, human detection technologies (Doppler & Infrared).  When movement within the vehicle’s safety zone is detected, you are immediately notified via a tablet-based control console in your cabin.     Onscreen flashing indicators let you know the side where movement was sensed.  Optional sound indicators can also simultaneously fire.  When Armed in a defensive mode, powerful roof mounted strobe lights automatically turn on, startling the approaching person and temporarily impairing their vision.   For precious moments, you can see them, while they can’t get a good bead on you. .
